Main Task - Film Analysis 1
Frame 1
Mission Impossible is an adventure thriller with the main theme of spies. This particular screen shot represents the spy theme as the font 'IMPOSSIBLE' looks as if it is printed in ink.The background is black and sinister, whereas the font is pale and stands out.
Frame
2
The
second screen shot has a black background which makes the film have a very
serious aspect and we can determine the difference between a thriller film and
say for example a cheerful comedy due to the dark colours. In the background
there is also a small hint of light, which seems to be a strobe light of a
torch. This makes the viewer curious of what could be lurking in the darkness
of the shot.
Frame
3
This
shows a close-up shot of a hand covered in blood, this annotates
that there is a disaster within the film, and that someone is due to be wounded
or perhaps killed or murdered. This
would immediately give hints that the film is a thriller. Blood is related to
injury and death, so one would suggest these things to appear in the following
film.
Frame 4
Tom
Cruise in this shot appears to be serious, due to the close-up of him frowning,
which suggests confusion or curiosity upon him. He could be trying to work
something out or understand something within the film, this also makes the film
appear sinister and far from happy. Glasses make Tom Cruise appear intelligent
and important.
Frame
5
The man in this shot has a shocking look on his face, this
would lead the audience to be curious as to what he is shocked about. The
lighting enables the shot to appear black and white, it also gives an illusion
that the man is in a cold temperature environment. The glasses he is wearing
could be annotated that the man is intelligent.
Frame
6
This is the second 'blood' shot used in
the title sequence of Mission Impossible which gives the audience a strong idea
that again, the film is a thriller and is a film that causes many characters to
be wounded. There appears to be a weapon, yet the title sequence is so fast
that the audience is left with unanswered questions, which entices the audience
to the point they wish to continue watching the film.
Frame 7
Here we witness
another shot of Tom Cruise, this time without glasses on, yet still appearing
to be confused or concerned, meaning that the audience would understand that
the film is sinister and that the characters within it are to be faced with
problems throughout the film.
Frame 8
There
are many shots like this within the title sequence of Mission Impossible, yet
there is a focus on this particular character, Tom Cruise. The audience could
assume that he is the main character within the story of Mission Impossible and
that he is going to make frequent appearance during the film.
Frame 9
This
is the shot that is similar to the one before, yet it seems more in-depth. This
would suggest further that he is a main character within the film as the
database is analyzing his personal information. Of which we can also read as a
viewer, where we can discover background information about the character though
not a lot is given away.

Preliminary Task - FILM & EVALUATION - THE DEBT
EVALUATION
1. What have you learnt by doing this exercise ?
I had used a camera in GCSE, however my knowledge was limited to MS (mid shot), LS (long shot) and CS (closeup). At AS level, I have learned that you can have mid/ close ups, establishing shots and extreme close ups. I have also learned that the closer you get to the character, the more intimate emotions can be shared with the audience. Therefore the camera work can be used to show unrestricted narratives.
I did not know anything about the rule of two thirds (framing). I learned that the viewer 'reads' from left to right and that I could compose more content on the right third and still keep the composition balanced. I also learned that profile shots must have space in front of them, especially when using eyeline shots.
I have understood have to film for continuity editing. I knew nothing about how to film conversations and really liked learning about 'over the shoulder' (shot, reverse shot). 'Match on action' was hard but it made our film look really professional.
I have also learnt how to do independent research and work successfully in teams. I found that I fell into the role of Director because I know what was needed, found that I am quite organised and can communicate well with others, directing my team members was hard but they worked well with me and my production team enjoyed working with each other
2. What skills have you developed
I have developed my camera work skills and team working skills.
The best skills I have learned and developed are my editing skills.I am now confident with how to edit the video's on Adobe premier (inserting music, titles, effects, cutting unneeded clips) and also how to import/ export those videos.
I still need more practice.

3. What feedback have you received?
The feedback that we received about the video was mostly good. the audience stated that they found it interesting, they liked the music used and they also liked out editing skills.

4. How would you improve your Preliminary Task?
There were a few things that could have been improved from our preliminary task. in one of the shots in the video we had background characters in at the cafe, after we had finished the video i noticed that one of them kept looking into the camera. Also at some point in the Video the main character was approaching the table and the camera slightly cut out some of his head.
